3 out of 5 stars Not for indoor range   September 1, 2010
Unlucky
As others have said, you should use ear plugs in addition to this earmuff at an indoor range.

5 out of 5 stars Affordable ear candy...   August 31, 2010
Sean Barber
In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that I put a limit of $100 on my purchase. I go to the range fairly infrequently and have used my brother's Peltor Tactical 6S as well as some inexpensive brands of the non-electronic variety. After only a couple of hours with the Peltor, the pressure physically hurt my head and the mic intermittently cut out. He had another set, which was also defective. I researched the internet extensively, and found these.

The auxiliary input is very handy, but the sound is nowhere near audiophile grade. The included earbuds in an iPod sound better, but nonetheless it is a GREAT feature.

To test comfort, I actually slept with them on, and woke up with no aching the next morning. Even while wearing protective eyewear they remained extremely comfortable. The wide band distributes pressure evenly and the material seems to be durable as well as comfortable.

Performance-wise, they react quickly to loud noises. Even without the electronics enabled, they encompassed my ears with no sound leakage as I moved my head and the protection was adequate. The adjustable volume dial is ergonomic and easy to manipulate, even with gloves on. With the electronics engaged, I become blessed with superhuman hearing. I could While in the living room, I could hear the washing machine... 30' away, past the kitchen, in the garage. I could even hear the friction of my wife's bare feet on the hardwood flooring. Eeerie. They were also effective when I used a battery operated multi-tool (dremel/rotozip) in a cabinet (with my head IN the cabinet) and they worked very well. Being so slim, the muffs weren't cumbersome.

I'll be attending a 7-day gun-training course in a month with dozens of other people, each shooting a thousand rounds... so we'll see how well they perform. Right now, though... these things are indeed ear candy.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Electronic Earmuffs   August 24, 2010
Paul Garland (El Paso, Texas USA)
I have another pair, made by a different company, which I bought at the local sporting goods store. The electronics in these Howard Leight earmuffs work MUCH better. The cord to attach these to your mp3 or cell phone is included as are batteries. I have tried it, but honestly when you are out shooting I think your attention should be focused on safety and your weapon, rather than the music. Just saying.

I recommend these earmuffs highly.

5 out of 5 stars excellent value   August 23, 2010

Howard leight has done it again! I have enjoyed using these earmuffs every time I put them on. They are compact light weight and low profile. They easily block out harmful loud noise and their ability to enhance certain ambient noises as well as just plain being able to hear with them on is perfect for all occasions. If anyone cares about how they look with earmuffs on then these are the ones you want. You will be able to avoid looking like you have grapefruit tied to your head and still be able to block out the noise. Every feature works, if you get a pair that don't then it is the exception, not the rule. I have the same batteries in my muffs that I put in the day I received them almost a year ago. I have left them in the rain (not recommended) and everything is still working! I have spent hours looking for the best earmuffs that I could buy. I truly believe that you will not be able to get better muffs for more money, or equal muffs for less.

1 out of 5 stars Howard Leight -- poor quality headset   August 19, 2010

I purchased these in part because of many positive reviews. I am very familiar with noise canceling headsets as I am a pilot, and have three Bose headsets. The Howard Leight headset does little to protect my hearing at the shooting range, and I can't tell much difference between having them powered or just in passive mode. Yes, I can tell which is which (although an LED power light would be useful). I found the ambient sound painful, and had to go back to my $15 Remington earmuffs. I gave the Howard Leights two chances, just to make sure, but they don't work at all for me. A waste of $50. I wouldn't, in good faith, even sell them, as I think they are a danger to my or anyone's hearing.
